The new Visible Speech Mapping module for the Interacoustics Affinity2.0 is designed to assist clinicians in the important process of fitting and counselling. Incorporated in a verification screen the system addresses the task of explaining technical issues to non technical users.
Visible Speech Mapping merges real-ear verification and counselling into one screen. You can match the amplification to target (e.g. DSL mi/o v5, NAL-NL1) on an aided display and at the same time show the hearing aid benefit by comparing to an unaided display. The comprehensive layout showing dynamic range, normal hearing thresholds, and sound examples assists you in the process of communicating the measurement results and making recommendations.
Also for Children
Visible Speech Mapping can be used in the adult as well as the pediatric hearing aid fitting. Based on individual or predicted RECD values Visible Speech Mapping can be performed in the 2 cc coupler. This is particularly helpful when fitting hearing aids to children. By helping parents to absorb and understand what they need to know, Visible Speech Mapping makes counselling and verification a positive experience.

Interacoustics has for some time cooperated with Douglas Keefe, Ph.D., and Boys Town National Research Hospital in developing research instrumentation for Wideband Absorbance (WBA) / Wideband Reflectance (WBR). Douglas Keefe and colleagues have been using Wideband measurements in middle-ear research for years, and the more recent cooperation with Interacoustics has now resulted in a complete research system for WB Tympanometry, analyzing middle ear acoustics in the 226Hz - 8kHz frequency range. This system with its ReflWin software, which was developed with grant support from the National Institutes of Health, is in current use in research at BTNRH and elsewhere.
The system is a research system only, and is not for sale to the general medical community, but interested investigators are invited to contact Bue Kristensen at Bue@Interacoustics.com for further details, or meet with him at one of the following meetings:
At AAO in Chicago 21 - 24 September.
At E|UHA in Leipzig 15 - 17 October.
You may contact Mr. Kristensen at the Interacoustics booth.
The 2007 redesign of our VNG goggles introduced disposable foam pads. Held by Velcro, the foam pads are easy to replace and give greater stability to the goggles. They also ensure total light occlusion and improve patient comfort.

A kit is now available to convert existing Interacoustics goggles to the new type. It contains full instructions and all necessary parts and tools. Conversion takes less than ten minutes and basically involves replacing the frame. No special skills are required.
The kit includes 24 disposable foam pads with further pads available as required.
VNG with FireWire® - new technology, better Solutions
VNG offers technical as well as clinical advantages over ENG. It provides ideal conditions for observation, measurement and analysis of eye movements. It saves time, reduces costs and avoids the problems of myogenic and electrical noise. These advantages have made it the clinical procedure of choice in most balance assessment clinics.

It saves time, reduces costs and avoids the problems of myogenic and electrical noise. These advantages have made it the clinical procedure of choice in most balance assessment clinics.
Based on FireWire® technology, our latest VNG system achieves the kind of data transfer rates needed to make a real difference in video quality. This means that rotary eye movements or a small nystagmus are much easier to detect. This precision is reflected in the values reported for the critical slow phase component. Ease of detection and clearer video shorten the test time and remove some of the uncertainties associated with observation and diagnosis.
The system has a number of practical features. A remote control removes the need to be at the keyboard during testing. There are full field of view visual stimuli, software generated for direct output to a projector. Users can create their own test protocols. And the software contains a full set of printable reports. Actual recordings are stored with the results in the database and can be output for consultation with colleagues, for teaching purposes or for comparison with previous sessions. A multi language interface supports all functions.
The system comes in two versions, with (VO425) or without (VN415) ocular testing.

The latest upgrades to the popular AT235h Middle Ear Analyzer have produced an instrument of top performance and reliability with applications in both differential diagnosis and screening.
Four probe frequencies (226, 678, 800 & 1000Hz) give scope for multiple frequency tympanometry supported by a full test battery of acoustic reflex measures and ipsi- and contralateral reflex decay. The two probes (clinical and screening) are easy to change and are recognized automatically with calibration values adjusted accordingly. Two programmable reflex test sequences are available.
A new manual pump function allows you to override automatic features, giving you control over pressure changes during tympanometry. And there are now two tests of eustachian tube function, one for perforated and one for intact eardrums.
The AT235h also includes manual and automatic air conduction audiometry. Results are output from the built in thermal printer or sent to a computer via the newly added USB port.

VEMP (Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential) recording can be used as an indicator for various pathologies. In particular, it is the only clinical test that evaluates sacculus function in both ears individually. For this test, loud stimuli (min. 85 dB nHL) are used to evoke a response in the musculus sternocleidomastoideus. To increase tonus in the responding muscle, prone patients are asked to raise their head from the bed or, if sitting, turn their head to the non-stimulated side. A single test takes 30 seconds and is typically repeated several times.

Interacoustics systems can record VEMP from both sides simultaneously and calculate the VEMP ratio automatically. This is especially useful when patients are supine because they often have difficulty maintaining the raised head position. The test is offered as part of a dedicated VEMP system or included in a complete balance-testing system.
The new generation ASSR System from Interacoustics®
ASSR is an invaluable diagnostic procedure for assessing the hearing of babies referred from hearing screening. However, the time required to perform reliable ASSR by traditional means (typically one hour) has been a disadvantage.
ASSR is an invaluable diagnostic procedure for assessing the hearing of babies referred from hearing screening. However, the time required to perform reliable ASSR by traditional means (typically one hour) has been a disadvantage.
The new generation ASSR system from Interacoustics® contains two features that together will halve the time required to approximate the audiogram. The system is based on a stimulus form that maximizes the response from the basilar membrane and an advanced detection algorithm that analyses the information in the evoked response to extract frequency-specific information.
The system has a high retest reliability and can test both ears at the same time with 4 simultaneous frequencies, each of which can be controlled independently.
Designed for the Interacoustics® Eclipse platform, the system can deliver results directly into NOAH. Customers who do not use NOAH will benefit from the OtoAccess™ database which is included in the package.
